It's the first sentence.
Pack yourself a toothbrush, dear.
What did he say?

"Triumph and disaster are imposters just the same."

Today I am grateful for music and poets and having something to miss.

for future reference in the hope you won't need it

If and when your mind chatter keeps repeating the phrase getting back to good and you think isn't there a song with those lyrics? and you google it and find Rob Thomas...

don't listen.

Today I am grateful to know that there is still good.

4th grade. She scared me to death and made me good at math. #ThankATeacher

She read to our fifth grade class a book I have since shared. Obnoxiously.  #ThankATeacher

8th grade science was a blast. #ThankATeacher

He taught physics but cared way more than that. #ThankATeacher

My mom mastered in special education. I benefitted from that. #ThankATeacher

She shows what art can do. #ThankATeacher

I am not only grateful this week. I am grateful everyday for what teachers do and did.

red without rhyme or puzzle pieces

There's that one photo.
New York.
A red wall.
A woman sitting.
Like that's her job.
Just sitting all day.

It's not a good photo.

Too much light.
Too much red.
Story ruined.
Until now.

A new lens.
Red as easy.
Stop sign.
Wrong way.
Brake lights.

Too easy.

How close am I to losing you?
Are you awake?
Can I ask you about today?
How close am I?
To losing you?
How close am I to losing?

You know the song.
I found what I love.
I asked for it.

Today I am grateful to be able to do what I love.

Today I am grateful for love, peace and chicken grease.

It's the morning's theme not dissimilar to that way when in the early days of calling myself a writer I would declare in an inner voice and then in an outer one to those nearby possibly only in the proximity due to their curiosity of what parlor trick I would be performing next, "Today's word is hustle."

Then, "What do you think about that?"

They, less excited and more taken aback because weren't we just discussing their chest cold, would nod questionably but approving, "Yeah? I mean, yeahyeahyeah. I hardly got any sleep last night."

"But what do you think of when you think of the word hustle?"

They nod in an agreement of I won't give up. "It's good."

"That's what you think? It's good."

"So there's no negative connotation. Like you're hustling someone?"

"So it's about running on and the off the field, about giving it everything you've got, about purpose and drive, and the opposite of lazy."

Today I am grateful to remember to hustle.

I am grateful for the time we had. You were amazing, man.
