exploring Johnson Beach

Sometimes, I think, we can take ourselves too seriously.

Today I am grateful for how the ocean always humbles me.

The one thing I miss about California is the coast. I lived about 30 minutes from the Pacific and Bodega Bay (where The Birds was filmed!). When I was stressed, upset, emotional the coast is what called me. No matter how big your problems seemed when you arrived there you and your baggage seemed very small.

Exactly, Tara. As a child it was as simple as walking into the backyard. In my twenties it was giving birth to my child. But now it seems it happens when I stand on the edge of an ocean that I am overwhelmed by a sense of how tiny I am in such a large and complex, more than I could ever understand, world of my mind can't fathom how much.

And I am just awestruck and grateful to be even the tiniest part of it.

You remind me of what Isaac Newton said, "I do not know what I may appear to the world, but to myself I seem to have been only like a boy playing on the seashore, and diverting myself in now and then finding a smoother pebble or a prettier shell than ordinary, whilst the great ocean of truth lay all undiscovered before me."

Thank you for helping me remember that.
